In the Shadow of the Sun King

by danielle

I recently signed up to be a book review blogger for Thomas Nelson Publishers. This means I get free books! I get to pick which book to read (usually out of 8-10 or more) and they send it to me for free. All I have to do is write a 200 word or more book review, either good or bad, and put that same review on Amazon. Once I have done that they’ll send me another book of my choice. So in the near future you’ll be seeing more book reviews. Hope you enjoy!

In the Shadow of the Sun King

When I first chose to read In the Shadow of the Sun King I wasn’t too sure about it, I’m not a big fan of the cover. But this novel far exceeded my expectations. This book by Golden Keyes Parsons was fantastic. Parsons writing drew me in and I couldn’t put the book down. I haven’t had time to read a full novel since my daughter was born 5 months ago but for this book I made the time and finished it in 2 days. I love historical fiction where the author stays true to what really happened in history. And the fact that the characters are based on her own genealogy makes this book extra special. And while everyone enjoys a happy ending, I appreciated that not every story-line in the novel ended perfectly. I felt like Keyes did a good job of portraying human nature more realistically than many Christian authors. Each character has their struggles and temptations, Keyes doesn’t attempt to make any of the characters perfect but instead draws you into the heart of Madeleine, Francois, Pierre and others through their struggles. I would have to say this is one of the best books that I have read in a very long time and I can’t wait for the next one in the series to come out!

I am totally curious about this. What is the time frame for reviewing and how many do you have to do? I love reading and would love an opportunity to do something like this.

There is no time frame for reviewing the books. Actually…there isn’t even a penalty for not ever reviewing a book except that they won’t let you order another free book until you’ve reported your first review. You could do one book or 30 if you wanted. It’s really an awesome opportunity and it’s so easy to do!
