SOOOOO HOT!!!!!

by danielle

It has been over 90 degrees down here for the last few days! Not to mention that it’s also been super humid! It’s crazy, it’s only April. It’ll be a nice break getting to Rockford where even if it’s humid for 3 or 4 days we get a good storm and then we’ll have a period of dry heat. The other nice thing about Rockford weather is that at least some of the time it will actually cool down in the evenings. Here, it just gets more humid over night and doesn’t get below 65 or 70 degrees. Anyway, I’ve been informed by EVERYBODY (or so it seems) that I’m going to be miserable this summer. I’ll be so hot that I won’t be able to breathe and will only be able to sit in airconditioning doing nothing. Well…I just have to say…I love summer! I love growing my flowers and vegetables. I love swimming, I love the beach (not that there are many beaches in Rockford, IL!), and I love picnics and cookouts. I know I’m going to have to be a lot more careful about overheating when my tummy is bigger than a beach ball, but there’s always cold drinks, big floppy sunhats, sunscreen, the shade and lots and lots of water! I plan on NOT being miserable. I’m making a conscious decision to enjoy every little scrap of summer that I can. Even if I have to do my gardening with a flashlight!

What a riot! Danielle — I don’t think I’ve ever heard such a glowing account of Rockford weather!!– and from a Vancouver native, no less!! :-) It almost sounds like a great place to retire!! :-)
I’m sorry that the post-Katrina state of Covington has made your experience there a little less positive than my 2 yrs. there 28-29 years ago…I had really loved it, but I do remember that I constantly sweated!!! As time goes by, the positive memories tend to bump out the negative ones! :-) (But I’m so glad we didn’t have that incredible traffic that you all have had to deal with!)
We’re excited that you’ll be coming back, and it sounds like you’ll do just fine with your summertime pregnancy!
Maybe we can even look for some time at the beach — like maybe the Indiana dunes! :-)
Do put Fairhope, Alabama on your try-to-see list before you leave…it’s so cute and the Castors would love to see you — and their remodeled home would be great to see, too!
More later-So thankful for your Mom’s good report! Love ya’ … Mom K

Where did you purchase your rose colored glasses? Have you suffered the heat to the point it has affected your memory? It can get to 100 degrees F. with 1oo % humidity here in Rockford! That means high eighties at night!

You three better make plans to get back here and soon!

We are anxious to have you heading back this direction. Mo is excited too. He is going crazy seeing a baby bunny in our yard!

    Soon!

Wow Danielle, you do make Rockford sound heavenly! By the end of your rant you had me in tears from laughing….and yes will enjoy your summer cause this will be the last one you will have ‘alone’ for the next 18ish years. So enjoy it for all its worth…..

    hey danielle,

i know what you mean about hot. i was in japan for the first part of the summer last year and it was often above 30 degrees celsius with over 90% humidity. i was totally freezing when i came back to the 20 degree weather here, i always used blankets and wore sweaters when i was outside!

enjoy the weather and the last few months of baby growing!
    laura
